Introducing our Travel Specialist Jason Leigh

Our Travel Clinic is led by Clinical Nurse Specialist Jason Leigh, who holds the gold-standard qualification in travel health: the Diploma in Travel Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Jason began his healthcare career in the late 1990s as an Army medic, where he built a solid foundation in public health, infectious diseases and developed a deep passion for travel medicine. He later completed his Nursing degree and returned to the field of travel medicine, working in a General Practice setting for Citibank in London, where he provided specialist care for frequent business travellers.

With decades of hands-on experience – including personal adventures such as backpacking, family holidays, and long-haul trips across Southeast Asia, Central and South America, Europe, North Africa, and beyond,  Jason understands the real-world challenges of staying healthy while travelling.

Whether you are heading off on a holiday, business trip, cruise, volunteer mission, or a remote expedition, Jason offers tailored advice based on your destination, itinerary, and individual health needs.

Passionate about travel and dedicated to your well-being, Jason is here to help you travel smart, stay safe, and make the most of your journey.

Services

This is our gold-standard service — and our recommendation for all travellers. In this 45-minute appointment, we carry out a personalised risk assessment based on your health, destinations, and planned activities. You’ll receive expert advice, tailored recommendations, and written resources to support your trip. Whether you’re a first-time traveller or a seasoned globetrotter, there’s always something new to learn — and we’ll make sure you leave informed, prepared, and confident.

If you’re not after a full travel health assessment, this streamlined consultation focuses specifically on vaccine-preventable diseases relevant to your trip. We’ll assess your personal risk and provide clear recommendations — including information on disease transmission, avoidance, regional risks, and vaccine options — so you can make informed choices.

Please note: Even if you already know which vaccines you need, a consultation is still required by law before we can administer any vaccinations. We appreciate your understanding.

As West Auckland’s only Yellow Fever-accredited vaccination centre, we’re uniquely qualified to provide this essential travel vaccine. Our accreditation reflects Jason’s advanced expertise in travel medicine — the same specialist care and knowledge applied to every consultation. We also provide the internationally recognised Yellow Fever certificate required for entry into many countries.

This focused consultation is designed for travellers needing advice and prescriptions specifically for malaria prevention. We’ll assess your itinerary, accommodation, season of travel, and individual health factors to determine your level of risk. You’ll receive tailored recommendations on bite prevention strategies and, where appropriate, anti-malarial medication (chemo-prophylaxis).

Please note: This appointment covers malaria and related insect-borne diseases only. Broader travel health risks are not included — for a full risk assessment, we recommend our comprehensive consultation.

If your vaccination schedule requires multiple doses (such as Hepatitis B or Rabies), any follow-up visits arranged as part of your initial consultation are free of charge — you’ll only pay for the vaccines themselves.

Please note: This applies only to follow-up appointments related to your original travel plan. Any new travel or unrelated health concerns will require a separate consultation.

We know most people travel with family, friends, or in groups — and we’re happy to accommodate joint consultations. We offer a reduced fee for each additional person, making it a convenient and budget-friendly way for couples, families, or groups to get tailored travel health advice together.
